USC Women Have Made The Final Four

The USC women have made it to the final four for the third consecutive season!!! The Gamecocks won 86-75 against Maryland in their elite game to advance to next weekend‘s games in Dallas. They are now on a unbearable streak and there is no doubt that they can keep this steak going. The team as a whole is a successful and they have a very successful coach. Dawn Staley who is the USC Women’s basketball coach has many accomplishments under her belt and those achievements include:

  • 5× NCAA Regional—Final Four(2015, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023)

  • 7× SEC tournament champion (2015–2018, 2020–2021, 2023)

  • 7× SEC regular season champion (2014–2017, 2020, 2022–2023)

  • 3× Naismith Coach of the Year(2020, 2022, 2023)

  • 2× WBCA National Coach of the Year (2020, 2022)

  • AP National Coach of the Year(2020)

  • 3× USBWA National Coach of the Year (2020, 2022, 2023 )

  • 6× SEC Coach of the Year (2014–2016, 2020, 2022, 2023)

  • USA Today Sports Network Coach of the Year (2023)

  • 4× A-10 Tournament champion (2002, 2004–2006)

  • 3× A-10 regular season champion (2004, 2005, 2008)

  • 2× A-10 Coach of the Year (2004, 2005)


From the list of achievements as a coach, you can tell that she not only believes in her players but she makes them work for everything that they have. She believe in hard work and commitment. Dawn Staley was a Olympic basketball player and she took her skills she learned in her days as a basketball player and applied them to coaching. Not to forget her achievements as a basketball player including:

  • WNBA 15th Anniversary Team(2011)

  • 2× ABL All-Star (1997, 1998)

  • 2× ACC Player of the Year (1991, 1992)

According to a article from ebony.com in an interview Dawn Staley says “This is a new history we’re venturing into because there are so many great players and parity in our league that we need to start documenting” Also according to the article “Known for their intense defense, the Gamecocks have the top-scoring margin in the nation at 29.5 points per game.
